BIO : Véro Leduc
Combinant depuis 2003 des études en Travail Social et un apprentissage autodidacte de la réalisation de documentaires, Véro Leduc s’intéresse particulièrement aux groupes sociaux que l’on marginalise.
Réalisatrice et productrice d’une dizaine de courts-métrages, Véro Leduc est également membre des Lucioles depuis 2003. Initiant et réalisant plusieurs projets avec ce collectif de vidéastes engagéEs, elle fût co-coordinatrice de tournées québécoises (2004) et européennes (2005) de diffusion de vidéos à caractère sociopolitique.
Elle est également coordinatrice de trois compilations DVD de courts métrages: La Compile Sans Frontières - à propos des réfugiéEs et de la problématique de l’immigration, XXYZ - au sujet des personnes transgenres et transsexuelLEs et La Putain de Compile - qui donne la parole aux travailleuses du sexe.
A traveler above all, Véro Leduc journeyed through many lands before
launching herself, upon her return from an eight-month trip through Eastern
Europe, into filmmaking. Already familiar with documentary through the
medium of photography, this politically conscious filmmaker was quickly
seduced by the vast potential of socially engaged video. Overcoming her partial deafness, she has since investigated, camera on her shoulder, a wide array of social universes.
Having combined since 2003 her studies in Social Work with a self-taught
filmmaking education, Véro Leduc focuses primarily on marginalized social
groups. Located at the crossroads of documentary and social intervention video,the films of this young creator give a voice to those from whom we hear so little
talking about their own vision. Her documentaries showing in the forefront
children, sex workers, homeless or Native people, are all an invitation to take
time to be open-minded to others and to their singular voices so that through
their perspectives, we can revisit our own.
Creator of ten short films already, Véro Leduc is also a member of Les Lucioles
since 2003. Initiator and producer of several projects with this socially engaged video collective, she has coordinated a Quebec (2004) and an European (2005) screening tour. She is also coordinator of three short film DVD compilations: La Compile Sans Frontières about refugees and immigration reality, XXYZ which addresses transgender and transsexual people’s concerns, and La Putain de Compile which gives voice to sex workers.
Following a human rights research project in Cambodia during summer 2007,
Véro Leduc is planning a film about intersectional reality of feminist lesbians
from various cultural communities to be completed in spring 2008.
