BIO : Nancy Tobin

Nancy Tobin est artiste sonore et conceptrice pour les arts de la scène. Ses créations témoignent d'un souci d’investir le moment présent par la décélération et la concentration. L'œuvre web RESTAREA (2000), métaphore de la halte routière américaine, invite les internautes à prendre une pause. Créée dans le cadre du laboratoire Périphérique dirigé par Nicole Gingras au GIV, l'oeuvre a été présentée au New Museum of Contemporary Art à New York et lui a mérité la mention « Excellent Artist » lors du concours Art On The Net organisé par le Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts à Tokyo en 2001.
SUPERHEART (2014) est la première bande vidéo réalisée par Nancy Tobin.

Nancy Tobin is an audio artist based in the St-Henri neighbourhood of Montreal. Her published works focus on ‘the present’: to be completely invested in a moment. She pays particular attention to notions of concentration and deceleration. As a web artwork, RESTAREA (2000) is a metaphor for the American highway rest point; it is transposed onto the web where she invites the user to decelerate the pace. RESTAREA retains its power to incite the viewer to pause–today–as it did more than ten years ago. RESTAREA was part of a group exhibition in 2001 at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York City, and received the ‘excellent artist’ mention by the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts, Tokyo, 2001.
SUPERHEART is Tobin’s first single channel video work.
