Kandis Friesen
Kandis Friesen is an interdisciplinary artist and musician based in Montreal, Quebec. Working predominantly with sound, video, animation, drawing, electronics, and installation, her practice examines notions of translation, memory, and the collective archive. Friesen's videos are often abstract experimental documentaries that challenge didactic notions of history, while simultaneously engaging in the layered and chaotic nature of memory and collective narrative. In both her practice and community-based work, she is actively engaged in fostering environments for skills sharing and media/arts production, through participatory workshops and collaboration-based projects. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1978, Kandis Friesen has been living and working in Montreal, Quebec since 2000, and is currently finishing a degree in Intermedia Arts at Concordia University. |
