BWHBC

Grew out of local meetings in 1969 and 1970. Formally incorporated in 1972 as a nonprofit organization, now recognized throughout the world as a leading feminist health education, information, advocacy and activist organization. Broad mission: to empower women with knowledge of their bodies, health and sexuality.
Following are some of the issues the BWHBC has worked on: women and health care reform; maternity care reform and midwifery advocacy; women and smoking; consumer education on breast implants; reproductive health and rights; contraceptive research and development; and women, population and the environment.
Known primarily for its widely-acclaimed book, Our Bodies, Ourselves (now titled Our Bodies, Ourselves for the New Century) and companion books for youth and older women, the BWHBC continues to collect, synthesize, analyze, and disseminate information on women and health to a diverse audience of lay persons, professionals, students, media and policy makers.
