This is the first in a series of music videos shot entirely in rooms of my apartment. In these comfort zones, I am able to deny all of the stress, responsibilities, bills and chaos of my real life. In "My Man", I am dressed in a peach, frilly, floor-length gown that lends a sickly sweet air to my character.
Made-up to look as though I've had the crap beat out of me complete with swollen cheek and black eye, I lip-synch Peggy lee's version of "My Man" as earnestly as I can. This rendition is upbeat and jazzy in stark contrast to heartfelt versions by Billie holiday and Barbra Streisand that can reduce listeners to tears. My intention is to make the viewer uncomfortable through my performance with unnerving humour.
