This tape focuses on the artist's separation
from her Palestinian family, specifically her mother,
whose letters from Beirut form the soundtrack.
Hatoum photographed her mother in the shower
during a brief family reunion. The personal and political
are inextricably linked in a narrative that
explores identity and sexuality against a backdrop of
traumatic social rupture, exile and displacement.
