This video is based on a book by the Chilean
author Diamela Eltit, a vanguard writer and artist.
In the video she reads excerpts
from her work "Por la Patria".
The texts refer to her father and mother,
her loves, her interrogation by the police, and other subjects.
The setting chosen for the video is a renowned publishing centre,
once the heart of Chile's cultural life in the 1960's and early 1970's,
now closed and abandoned.
It is an appropriate symbol of the bankruptcy
of officials under the dictatorship.
