On The 30th of August of 1995, in Oaxaca, assemblies reformed
electoral procedures in order to allow the election of municipal authorities. In the last elections, 418 municipalities elected their authorities by this system officially known as usos y costumbres (traditions and customs). In some communities, women were allowed to participate in this process. Very few have been elected presidentas municipales (mayors). In this video, women give testimonies on how they have become presidentas municipales, the difficulties they have encountered as well their successful results. |
