Gestures of despair. Acts of survival. A woman slips out of the hands of a policeman; a man, crying on the floor, resists two men dragging him off. Another man, pulled by the hair in an almost inhuman position, tries to free his head from the claws of the beast. These images deeply etched in our memory were shot during the demonstration of December 19th and 20th 2001 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. People marching to denounce government policies were brutally repressed by police. Result: 30 dead, and the resignation of president De la Rúa. The soundtrack was also taped during the demonstrations. So the very strange sounds come from the people, from the shouts of the people. Tape for installation.
